Our precious Waste

Transience, oversupply, disposable society.

Venice’s fish market had just closed down its stands, the sun is shining.The artist finds himself in the middle of dozens of trash bags. Seagulls dancing around them trying to pick out the pieces of fish nobody bought this day. He decides to open the bags and finds fish for at least one week of delicious fish soup. Now the happening starts. Seagulls arrive: hasty, greedy, hungry. The artist is in the middle of the spectacle, while they fly over him, hitting him with its wings.

Slow-motion shots and soft cuts, combined with the deafening noise of the screaming gulls, allow us to immerse ourselves as a viewer in the middle of the crime scene of waste. With the seagulls at eye level, we are part of the plunder and scavenging, part of the ironic capitalist darwinism, in which fish are overfished for human being, before being thrown away on the street; and eventually not even being fed to the gulls.
